C-Class vs. 3-Series: Engine & Performance

When you compare the BMW 3 Series vs. Mercedes-Benz C-Class, you’ll notice that

both models are equipped with similar entry-level engines. However, this similarity misrepresents a difference that’s more apparent as you move down the line! Check out the powertrains for each vehicle below:

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan – Powertrains

  • 2.0L I4 turbo with 255 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque (C 300 Sedan, C 300 4MATIC®® Sedan)
  • AMG®-enhanced 3.0L V6 biturbo with 385 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque (AMG® C 43 Sedan)
  • Handcrafted AMG® 4.0L V8 biturbo with 469 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque (AMG® C 63 Sedan)
  • Handcrafted AMG® 4.0L V8 biturbo with 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque (AMG® C 63 S Sedan)

The base-level C-Class also features rear-wheel drive, and like the rest of the C-Class lineup, features the standard 9G-TRONIC® 9-speed automatic transmission. 4MATIC®® AWD is standard on the next trim level, and if you choose the AMG® line, you’ll enjoy the powerful AMG® Performance 4MATIC® AWD.

2022 BMW 3-Series Sedan – Powertrains

  • 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder with 255 hp and 294 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder & Electric Motor with 288 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline-6 with 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque

All models are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which that means the luxury C-Class has the edge from the start! Also, all 3 Series models come with your choice between rRWD and xDrive AWD, but you’ll have to pay extra for an upgrade no matter which trim level that you decide.

C-Class vs. 3-Series: Premium Features

No matter which vehicle you choose, Shavano Park drivers can expect nothing but success. It’s especially apparent when you take a look at each model’s suite of features, such as:

  • Power front seats with memory
  • Genuine wood trim
  • 40/20/40 split fold-down rear seats
  • Selectable drive modes
  • And much more!

However, there are more than a few differences between these two models. Below is a look at why many drivers will prefer the Mercedes-Benz:

  • HANDS-FREE ACCESS® is standard in the C-Class, but requires an upgrade in the 3 Series. If you have trouble opening the trunk when your hands are full, you know this is a valuable feature!
  • ATTENTION ASSIST® learns your normal driving behaviors and lets you know when it’s time to take a break. Like the optional Car-to-X-Communication, drivers can share information over the air. This is exclusive to the Mercedes-Benz line.
  • The 2022 C-Class Sedan comes standard with a 10.25-inch central touchscreen display and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. While the 3 Series offers similar features as standard, they measure just 8.8 inches diagonally.
