Your Mercedes-Benz: All Electric model can be charged via Level 1, 2, or 3 electric vehicle charging stations both at home or at public charging stations. One of the less exciting aspects of your recent purchase is that you have to prepare your home for an electric vehicle, but Mercedes-Benz of San Antonio and Mercedes-Benz have a number of resources to make it easier for our San Antonio customers.
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) aids drivers in finding electric vehicle charging stations when they are on the road beyond Alamo Heights and can even filter by charging type and more. Mercedes-Benz: All Electric models also monitor the charge state and Electric Intelligence provides guidance to optimize routes and factors in charging spots.
Most often, Shavano Park drivers prefer to load up their electric vehicle charging batteries at home. So, before you hit the road you’ll want to prepare your home for an electric vehicle with a few easy steps. Mercedes-Benz of San Antonio covers those below.
While Levels 1, 2, and 3 are all available, only Level 1 and 2 Chargers are available for home installation. The difference between the two is:
If you are using your garage for storage it’s time to clean it up! Be sure that you get your garage ready for an EV before you take delivery! It is a good idea to clean out clutter first if your garage has been cluttered for a long time.
If you didn’t already know, the power panel in your home distributes electricity throughout the entire building. They are typically rated for a maximum amount of current flow, which is measured in amperes. Usually, new homes come with a 100-amp power panel, but there should be an amperage rating printed on your main circuit breaker. You’ll want to get an idea of how much electrical energy you consistently use in your house by performing a self-assessment of your electricity use before you install an EV charging system.
You’ll want to hire an electrician to discuss any concerns you have about your power consumption and adding electric vehicle charging batteries to your home. At this time you can also have them install a dedicated 240-volt plug or a hardwired circuit back to the power panel. This can cost anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars all the way up to $1,000 or $3,000 if it’s found that your power panel is not sufficient as-is and requires upgrading.
At this point, it’s a good idea to research the charger you’re most interested in and have it installed by your electrician.
