The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a luxurious SUV that places an emphasis on comfort, style and performance. The 2017 BMW X6 is a lavish SUV that also offers plenty of premium amenities. Available with biturbo V8 engines, the AMG® GLE models are much more powerful than the BMW X6. The DYNAMIC SELECT and 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive also make this versatile Mercedes-Benz very easy to handle on any road.

Performance

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 runs on a 3.5 L V6 engine that’s rated at 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Offering 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, the 3.0 L biturbo V6 engine is installed in the GLE 400. In the GLE 550e Plug-In Hybrid, this engine works with an electric motor to produce a net output of 436 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Under the hood of the AMG® GLE 43 is a 3.0 L biturbo V6 engine that produces 362 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. Having a handcrafted design, the 5.5 L biturbo V8 engine delivers 550 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque in the AMG® GLE 63. In the AMG® GLE 63 S edition, this class-leading engine generates 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque. This monstrous engine offers a 0-60 MPH acceleration in just 4.1 seconds. Offering a peak output of 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, the BMW X6’s 4.4 L TwinPower V8 engine can’t compete with the AMG® V8 engines. The other powertrain option in this BMW is the 3.0 L TwinPower I-6 engine that has a maximum output of 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque.

Handling

When equipped with the 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive, the Mercedes-Benz GLE can confidently roll on different surfaces. This sophisticated drivetrain matches the handling capabilities of the xDrive AWD that’s available in the BMW X6. With the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission system, you have more gear options than the eight-speed automatic transmission system in the X6. Controlled by an electronic rotary dial, the DYNAMIC SELECT includes five modes that optimize the Mercedes-Benz GLE for various conditions. For example, you can choose the Sport+ Mode to enjoy an exciting ride on the highway. The signature AIRMATIC® suspension system makes subtle adjustments in response to the texture of the road. Variable damping forces are activated to provide maximum shock absorption on smooth and rough surfaces. The Active Curve System enhances the cornering capabilities of this premium Mercedes-Benz SUV. In the BMW X6, the Driving Dynamics Control only has two modes.

Technology

The COMAND® infotainment system in the Mercedes-Benz GLE has an 8-inch display that stands freely above the dashboard. This signature console includes GPS navigation with 3-D maps, voice recognition and real-time updates by SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are integrated into the COMAND® platform. HD Radio, iHeartRadio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio are the entertainment options in this luxurious Mercedes-Benz SUV. You can listen to music on the 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system that’s rated at 830 watts. For even better acoustics, choose the Bang & Olufsen audio system that comes with 14 speakers that produce up to 1,200 watts.
